Simple ways to save money and even help the environment. Most of these are pretty much common sense.

Replace standard bulbs with higher efficiency CFL (Compact FLuorescent) bulbs or LED lights.

Walk a little if you can. Why take the car if it's just a short distance from where you live. You save gas, CO2 and even may become healthier from it. Of course use discression when walking. Only do so if you feel safe.

Reusable coffee mugs. almost all coffee shops have them but they offer you that paper cup instead and you have to pour your own into your cup. Kind of defeats the purpose. Why not make yourself a cup at home and take it with you. It saves money and the enviroment too.

Use reusable shopping bags when getting groceries. Some stores even give you a discount for bringing your own bags.

Natural Homemade Cleaners

Make cheap (inexpensive) cleaners for your home and business

All Purpose Cleaner - Mix together equal parts white vinegar and salt.  Scrub surfaces with a natural cleaning cloth.

Baking Soda - Not just for the Fridge anymore. Baking soda can be used as a non-abrasive scouring cleaner on countertops and ovens, and in bathtubs and sinks.  It also can rid clothes of odors when used in conjunction with laundry detergent in the washer.

For Laundry try adding 1/2 cup to a cup to your load.

Sprinkle on carpet before vacuuming.

Homemade Disinfectant - Mix 1/2 cup of borax powder with 1 gallon of water. (hot water works best you can add a few drops of some fragrant essential oils such as thyme, rosemary, or lavender.

To polish furniture - use 1 cup lemon juice with 1 tbsp olive oil and 1 tbsp water, rub lightly on to the furniture using a soft cloth.  Let sit for a couple of minutes, then wipe off and buff.

Streak free Glass Cleaner - For mirrors and windows, combine 1/4 cup undiluted white vinegar and 1 quart warm water.  Put into a spray bottle. I've had people tell me to add 1 tps corn starch to the mix but I found it left a film.   For a lint-free shine, wipe dry with a sheet of crumpled newspaper.

To Scrub Tile and Grout - 1 cup water and 3 cups baking soda mixed into a paste works great for cleaning tile and grout.  Use a toothbrush to scrub the paste into grout.
